MUFARO'S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTERS
by Dallas Children's Theater

From the Caldecott Award winning book by John Steptoe, this timeless folktale has been called "the African Cinderella." The human natures of selfishness and generosity are contrasted in the two daughters, Manyara and Nyasha. Colorful masks, fabric and totems and scenery to depict the woods give the story its African setting. John Steptoe wrote, "The Cinderella theme is ancient and almost every culture has its own unique version of the tale. The popularity of the theme for so many centuries tells us that industrious, kind and considerate behavior has always been an ideal to be encouraged." With traditional chanting and African song, come celebrate goodness, generosity and love.
